Hand pallet trucks are a huge convenience if you work in a work place where loads have to be ferried from one posting to the next regularly. But however useful these trucks can be, they are worthless if they are not maintained properly. Regular maintenance ensures they last longer, plus, you will not have to buy another pallet truck for a long time to come.
Pallet Truck Lubricate
Like any device that carries a lot of friction within its composite parts, maintenance is very important. The bearings constitute a major part of your hand pallet truck’s movement capability and oiling these regularly ensures that movement is never compromised at the expense of whatever it is you are transporting. Apply minilube-light oil-after you have cleaned your lifting chains. Light oil is used because applying heavy duty oil can result in your unit mal-functioning.
Plus, heavy duty oil can also lead to the clogging of the other composite parts of your machine. However, tapered areas of your hand pallet trucks should not be lubricated even if it makes your rollers slide instead of rolling. Doing this can destroy them. But the bearings must always be lubricated heavily as these parts can rust, and they are also expensive to repair or replace.
Pallet Jack Wheel Inspection
Inspect the wheels of your hydraulic hand pallet truck at least once a week, and more than this depending on the frequency of use. Wheels become worn and torn with time, a scenario which eventually requires you to over exert yourself when working. Inspect your wheels particularly for the sake of your back, legs and arms. Not carrying out this simple maintenance procedure will make loads seem heavier when in actual fact your pallet jack / jacks is not working accordingly. Replace old wheels with new ones the very moment you notice the inner treads protruding in the exact same way those of your car would.
Recharge Batteries
To make sure that the batteries of your heavy duty equipment are working you need to monitor water levels very closely. Always make sure the level of water is a half inch above the plate every time. And instead of using regular water, use distilled water whenever you are replacing water. And like a standard platform truck, make sure the housing compartment is open whenever you are charging the battery of the cart. However, this does not apply in the case of an electric pallet jack. And a word of caution: do not, and I mean do not, charge while the machine is running.
